Independant Opticians and Contact Lens Practitioners in Ashford, Kent

Address:

Cecil House, Norwood Street, Ashford, Kent, TN23 1QT

We’re not just another opticians…

Since 1928, Brownbills are proud to have been providing expertise in eye care to all patients with a clear focus on patient care and individual service excellence. We are proud to be an independent local optician, and according to the experts at consumer body Which?, our pride is well-founded. In a comprehensive survey of UK opticians, independents topped the table with an average customer score of 87 per cent – significantly outperforming every national chain of opticians.

Relocating to Norwood Street in 2010, close to the centre of Ashford’s historic town, Brownbills now occupies a detached 19th Century house, thought to be the first cavity wall building in Ashford and also home to previous occupants such as the town registry office (some of our current patients even got married in the same room that now houses our reception and waiting area). Compared to the practice’s previous home on Bank Street, these premises are now more spacious, allowing us to provide better facilities and a more welcoming environment to each and every one of our patients.

We have taken the time to develop our premises and have learnt what enhances our patients visit when they attend our practice. Our most recent building work, completed in 2015, focussed on accessibility issues for the disabled. This now means that our two primary consultation rooms, diagnostic suites and dispensary are all located on the ground floor along with a disabled toilet facility (for which we were awarded a GOLD award from the Ashford Access Group)

Continuing our aim to provide superior patient care, we continually explore and invest in new technologies that we feel will be of benefit to our patients. Additions to this in recent years include a Zeiss Humphrey Field Analyser; an Intuitive Colorimeter, which can be used to help with specific problems of visual stress or dyslexia; a Pachymeter, an ultra-sound to measure corneal thickness; and a new style of photochromatic spectacle lens which can act two thirds quicker than most currently available on the market. In June 2016 we also launched the UK’s first TearClinic – a specialist eye care service to diagnose and manage ocular surface disease, relieving dry eye symptoms and preventing long-term complications.

In addition to our clinical care inside the consulting room, our dispensing team take pride in searching far and wide to ensure we can offer the best of spectacle frames and lenses available on the market today. With a continuously growing database of suppliers and manufacturers, both local and international, we are able to select the perfect solution for you, whether your focus be cost, style, durability, comfort or a mix of all four.

You and your lifestyle are among the most important things that matter when examining your eyesight. As an independent practice we take time in understanding you and your lifestyle at every stage of your visit to us.
