Back in March we followed the NHS guidelines and took the difficult decision to close and suspend all routine sight tests and routine eye examinations with immediate effect. This is something which in over 100 years of service we never imagined having to consider.
During lockdown our team kept our phone lines active and were on hand to help with emergency eye care, spectacle repairs, contact lenses, spectacle orders or just as a friendly voice. We have also been working hard to adapt our premises to be better suited to dealing with the post-coronavirus world.
Now, we are pleased to say that we are beginning to re-open for routine appointments, strictly by prior-arrangement only.
To help make your visit as safe as possible we have introduced some extra precautions for all our patients:
- At the time of booking you may be asked a set of pre-test questions.
- We ask that wherever possible you attend your appointment on your own. If the patient is a child (under 16yrs), they still need to be accompanied, or if additional help is needed, for example with elderly or disabled patients. However, we still ask that you are only accompanied by just by 1 other person.
- You will be asked to hand sanitise and wear a new/clean mask.
- You will see staff wearing PPE.

Frequently Asked Questions
I had an appointment cancelled/postponed during lockdown. What is happening with my appointment?
Patients who had visits booked during the lockdown will have by now received a phone call regarding the initial postponement of your appointment. Our team is now beginning to triage and reallocate every single one of these appointments and so please await our phone call as soon as possible. (This is a mammoth task and so please bear with us as we try to reach all affected patients).
I have an appointment booked soon. Will it go ahead?
We are currently working hard to triage and reallocate appointments for those who had appointments affected due to the lockdown. This may cause a delay for those who are expecting appointments imminently. Therefore, please be prepared that we may contact you to alter your appointment time and/or date.
I don’t have an appointment booked but I need to book one. What can I do?
Please call us. We may not be able to allocate an appointment for you straight away but we will be able to call you back with an appointment as soon as we are able to. You can call us on 01233 625360.
